Marriage in Islam is an agreement between the parties to enter into matrimony and from the very first Islamic marriages, the terms of the marriages were discussed and negotiated between the parties.
Not all couples may choose to customize their nikkah (i.e., nikah, nikaah, and Islamic marriage contract). However, the process of discussing potential terms in a nikkah is also a great way to work out and resolve issues so that couples can start on the same page on the first day of marriage.
